DS-K-8

DS-K-8 (Kosmos 8) [Yuzhnoye]

The DS-K-8 satellites were developed by Yuzhnoye to test the techniques and equipment for an ELINT sytem for the determination of characteristics of the military radar installations from space.

This satellite tested the Kust-8 SIGINT equipment in orbit.

A single satellite, known as Kosmos 8, was successfully orbited by a Kosmos rocket from Kapustin Yar.

It decayed on 17 August 1963, one day short of a year after its launch

Further tests for the development of a spacebased ELINT capability were conducted with the DS-K-40 satellites.
