SpooQy 1

SpooQy [JAXA]

SpooQy 1 is a 3U Cubesat ission for technology demonstration developed by the National University of Singapore (NUS).

The SpooQy-1 mission encompasses the following mission objectives:

  • Demonstrate the generation of polarisation-entangled photon pairs in space.
  • Demonstrate that the technologies used on scientific payload, including the new flexure stages, blade mounting and thermal design, are working as intended.

Besides these main objectives, the mission also has the additional goals to investigate aging of the payload and to de-risk future SpooQySat and quantum key distribution (QKD) missions.

SpooQy-1 iwas launched in 2019 towards the ISS for deployment on the Cygnus CRS-11 cargo mission. It was deployed on 17 June 2019.
