ETS 3 [NASDA]
ETS 3 (Engineering Test Satellite 3) was launched by Japan. The satellite nickname is Kiku-4. Objectives were to test the 3-axis attitude control function, solar array paddle deployment, thermal control, and instrument functions.
Also an ion engine propulsion system was tested, consising of two electron bombardment type mercury ion engines with 2 mN thrust and 2,000 sec specific impulse and a power conditioner with automatic control functions.
