The Yaogan 5 (Remote Sensing Satellite 5) satellite series consist of optical government remote sensing satellites, likely used as a military reconnaissance satellite. They appear to be the successors to the ZY-2 (JB-3) series.

Yaogan 5 was launched by CZ-4B rocket from China's Taiyuan space center on 15. December 2008. It is likely an optical reconnaissance satellite.

The second satellite of this series, Yaogan 12, was launched on 9 November 2011 together with a piggy-back microsatellite.

A third one called Yaogan 21 was put into orbit on 8 September 2014. This one is reportedly the las unit of this series.
