Tempsat 1

The Tempsat satellites were built by the Naval Research Lab (NRL) to test satellite thermal control by using black paint. The satellites were simple spheres.

Tempsat 1 was launched on 13. Augus 1965 by a Thor-DSV2A Able-Star launch vehicle from Vandenberg AFB.

Tempsat 2 was launched on 30. September 1969 by a Thorad-SLV2G Agena-D launch vehicle from Vandenberg AFB.
