Bane [York Space Systems]
Bane, formerly known as York Sat, is a microsatellite built by York Space Systems which will serve as a technology demonstrator and a pathfinder for future missions and provide Earth observation data to customers.
The BANE mission carries two commercial payloads one from CACI International Inc. — a Resilient Position Navigation and Timing (PNT) system and the other is an Optical Communications demonstration for SDA.
The CACI Payload is comprised of two communications modules: an alternative positioning, navigations, and timing (APNT) module and a communications and signal monitoring module. Both modules are built on flexible, upgradable software-defined radio hardware.
York has entered into an agreement with the SDA to host and operate a SDA Payload on board of Bane. Pursuant to the terms of its agreement with the SDA, York’s operation of the SDA Payload will demonstrate several capabilities for Tranche 0 of the National Defense Space Architecture , which include verifying the SDA Payload in orbit, demonstrating optical communications connectivity between the SDA Payload in LEO and an SDA optical ground terminal, demonstrating the capacity to deliver mission data from LEO to the ground via optical communications; and demonstrating optical intersatellite links between the SDA Payload onboard the York Sat and a Tranche 0 Transport satellite.
