LeoSat

LeoSat [TAS]

LeoSat is a planned constellation of up to 108 satellites to provide a unique solution for data communications in challenging Polar regions of the world. The constellation will provide high-speed, low-latency and highly secure communications and bandwidth for business operations in the telecom backhaul, Oil and Gas exploration, Maritime and international business markets.

LeoSat will provide the fastest, most secure and widest coverage data network in the world, has announced it has been invited by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to respond to their Request for Information (RFI) for broadband data communications requirements in the South Pole and throughout the Antarctic continent.

The LeoSat High Throughput Satellites (HTS) are connected all connected together in networked HTS satellites, connected to each other and to select established sectors on the planet.

Each satellite in the LeoSat constellation supports:

  • 10 Ka-band steerable user antennas, each of which is capable of providing customer terminals with between 50 Mbps and 1.6 Gbps of symmetrical data connectivity
  • Two steerable gateway antennas, capable of an aggregated throughput of up to 10 Gbps (which can also be used for customer traffic when not over a gateway)
  • 4 optical inter-satellite links

LeoSat is currently working with Thales Alenia Space for the low-earth-orbit constellation of between 78 and 108 Ka-band communications satellites based on the ELiTeBus-1000.

For 2019 the launch of two Early Birds offering GigaByte Store & Forward Services is planned. Beginning in 2020 the Constellation will be put into orbit, offering real-time point to point coverage growing from the Earth’s Poles to the equator upon completion. In 2021 full worldwide service available is planned. LeoSat Constellation is considering launching its satellites on Falcon-9 or Ariane-6 with 84 satellites on 6 launches

In November 2019, LeoSat ended the search for investors and shut down the project.
