Terrier Sandhawk

Terrier Sandhawk [Sandia]

The Terrier Sandhawk sounding rocket was developed by the Sandia Laboratories.

The first stage booster consisted of a Terrier MK.12 Mod.1 rocket motor with four 0.22 m2 fin panels arranged in a cruciform configuration. The Terrier booster has an overall diameter of 45.7 cm. The second stage propulsion unit is a Thiokol Sandhawk TE-M-473 rocket motor which was designed especially for high altitude research rocket applications. The rocket was unguided and fin stabilized.

A Terrier Sandhawk could boost a 91 kg, 33 cm diameter payload to an altitude of 427 km.

The vehicle was replaced by the Terrier Malemute rocket.
