Siren (LILAC)

Siren [D.F. Ustinov “MMI”]

Siren is a Russian 3U CubeSats with a biology mission developed by the Engineering Center of BSU within the frameworks of the “SPACE-p” project, supported by FASIE on the OrbitCraft-Pro SXC3 CubeSat satellite of “SPUTNIX” (a member of Sitronics Group), the team “Engineering Center of BSU“ has developed a payload that will allow them to investigate the state of lilac sprout growth in space."

The main task of this mission is to study the development and growth of the micro clones of syrupy plants in a cultural environment under the weightless conditions.

Alongside the payload on the satellite, there is a mobile consisting of a capsule with lilac sprouts fixed in with a special nutritious gel-like solution, as well as with cameras and LEDs.

This device contains 4 micro clones of the "Great Victory" variety of lilacs, located in a specially developed cultural environment. Daily monitoring will be carried out, namely, recording the growth and development of micro clones and their root systems. Clone-breeding plants are known to be able to sustain their viability under certain conditions for quite a long time (up to a year), therefore, it is plant micro clones that are looking promising for space exploration.
