Andesat 1, 2

Andesat 1 [Astranis]

Andesat 1 is a small geostationary Ku-band high-througput satellite (HTS) built by Astranis for Grupo Andesat (Andesat), a cellular services backhaul provider that connects cell towers in Peru to the internet backbone, in a new partnership that will bring broadband internet access to thousands of rural communities across Peru for the first time.

At one meter cubed and under 400 kg, the Astranis MicroGEO satellites can be built in months, not years. The 400 kg satellites will use electric propulsion to reach geostationary orbit.

The satellites are High Throughput Satellites (HTS) featuring a reconfigurable software-defined payload.

Andesat 1 was contracted in December 2021. The contract also features an option for a second satellite to create additional capacity in the future.

Andesat and Astranis are targeting launch for the first satellite in 2023, with a second do follow later. The first satellite was deferred to a later date, so that the already nearly complete satellite could be used as the Agila.
