CZ-8 (Chang Zheng-8)

CZ-8 (1) [CCTV]

The CZ-8 series of rockets is a modular launch vehicle family to replace the CZ-2, CZ-3 and CZ-4 series.

The vehicle is fueled by Kerosene and LOX and features a 3.35 m core with two YF-100 engines inherited from the CZ-7, augmented with two optional liquid rocket boosters. Stage 2 is a cryogenic stage powered by two YF-75 engines, which is inherited from the CZ-3.

The initial launch site is the new Wenchang Satellite Launch Center in the Hainan province. The maiden flight is planned for 2020.

Reportedly the stage 1 is modified to be reusable featuring powered vertical landing with deployable landing legs. The YF-100 need to be modified to allow for deep throttling. The strap-ons will stay attached for landing.
