Liberty

Liberty [ATK]

The Liberty launch vehicle is a rocket proposed by ATK and EADS Astrium to boost NASA payloads like the Orion capsule into earth orbit.

The vehicle is based on the cancelled Ares-1 rocket, from which it inherits the five-segment SRB booster, which in turn is derived from the Space Shuttle four-segment SRB.

The LH2/LOX fueled second stage is based on the Ariane-5 core stage. It is powered by the Vulcain-2 engine.

ATK plans a first flight in 2015.
