Svea

Svea [SSC]

Svea is a concept of a Swedish surveillance satellite, a collaborative effort between the Swedish Space Corporation and Saab Ericsson Space. It is designed to provide detailed, time-critical and autonomous geographical data from any region on the Earth, in support to national information requirements for military imagery intelligence and civil crisis management.

Svea is a low risk and cost-efficient small-satellite solution based on Swedish industrial competence and expertise, and commercial off-the-shelf products. The satellite platform design takes advantage of on-going technology development for the PRISMA satellite mission and the space camera will be selected to meet the desired user requirements for performance. With development starting in 2006, Svea could be launched in 2010.

Svea will provide a spatial resolution of: 1.5 m in black/white and 3 m in colour.
