Libertad 1

Libertad 1
[Universidad Sergio Arboleda]

Libertad 1 is the first Colombian satellite. It was designed and built by students of the Universidad Sergio Arboleda.

It used a telemetric payload to keep it in communication with the University. This satellite had a lifetime of 30 days approximately.

Libertad 1 was to be solar powered, but due to an ITAR issue that prevented the satellite team from getting the solar cells they needed, it was launched without solar cells and powered only by batteries.

The satellite was successfully deployed in orbit. During its useful life it made more than 2,320 transmissions in which it sent more than 11,600 data packets, including real-time temperatures of its surfaces and orbit speeds.
