ICEYE X1 [ICEYE]
ICEYE X are proof-of-concept prototypes for a planned constellation of SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) equipped microsatellites, designed by the Finish ICEYE startup company.
ICEYE is designed to provide near-real-time SAR imagery. Iceye is working to launch and operate a constellation of micro satellites that carry its own compact and efficient SAR sensor technology. The Iceye imaging radar instrument can image through clouds, obscuring weather and darkness.
The prototype series are 70 kg satellites developed and integrated by ICEYE. The satellite has a body of 70 cm in height, 60 cm in width with a deployable antenna 3.25 meters in length. The X-band SAR instrument has a resolution of 10 m.
Its first prototype satellite, ICEYE X1, is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2017 as a secondary payload on a PSLV-XL. The goal of the mission is to validate in-orbit performance of the satellite and begin operations with select ICEYE customers.
A second prototype, ICEYE X2, is also ready to fly on another launch vehicle. It is planned to increase the range of incidence angles and to more than double the ground resolution.
