AssureSat 1, 2

AssureSat 1 [AssureSat]

AssureSat 1 and 2 were to be two high-powered, specially designed satellites. AssureSat plannned to launch the in-orbit backup protection service for the world's geostationary fixed satellite service (FSS) communications satellite operators.

The unique design of these spacecraft was to allow them to operate on all three ITU region frequency plans, and the antennae were to be steerable in flight to offer variable footprint coverage in both the C and Ku frequency bands. Each AssureSat satellite was to carry 36 C-band transponders and 36 Ku-band transponders. Total satellite power was to be 10 kW at end of life.

The spacecraft were to be based on Space System/Loral's three-axis, body-stabilized LS-1300 bus.

Loral had begun limited production, with full production to begin upon AssureSat's completion of the required additional financing. Assuresat reached in 2000 an agreement with Sea Launch for launching the satellites on Zenit-3SL (2) boosters.

AssureSat appears to have failed to come up with the required funding, causing the cancellation of the contracts.
